Manna was the miraculous bread from heaven that sustained the Israelites in the wilderness (Exodus 16). Here, “hidden manna” symbolizes spiritual nourishment and eternal sustenance that only the victorious will receive.
Balaam represents those who mix God’s truth with worldly ideas for personal gain or acceptance. Balak represents external pressures or fears that tempt the church to soften its stance or make peace with sin.
Jesus holding these keys means He is the master of life and death. He governs who enters eternal life and who faces judgment. This power flows directly from His resurrection and divinity.
“Firstborn” here doesn’t mean He was created (Colossians 1:15 clarifies Jesus as the eternal Son), but rather refers to His preeminence and rank, like the firstborn son who inherits rights and authority (Romans 8:29).
The seven churches addressed in Revelation represent the fullness of the church, not only in John’s day but throughout history. Thus, Jesus holding seven stars can be seen as a picture of his authority over the universal church in all times and places.
