What Does Persecution Mean In The Bible

Persecution means to subject an individual or a group to torture (mental, physical or spiritual) based on their beliefs or membership to a religion, race, ethnicity, caste or other affiliations. Jesus was persecuted for claiming the truth that he was the son of God. During world war II, the Jews were persecuted by the Nazis. Matthew 5:10 states the following:

"Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." - Matthew 5:10
