Why does God use parables to explain himself in the Bible?

Jesus explained why he used parables to his disciples in the Gospel of Matthew. He said it was a way to share secrets of the kingdom of heaven with them, not the crowds. Parables showed a clear divide - those with faith understood, while others did not.
