What is the difference between Levitical priesthood and Melchizedek priesthood?

According to Hebrews 7:3, Melchizedek was “without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God.” This sets the Melchizedek priesthood apart as transcending the temporal and genealogical constraints seen in the Levitical order.
