What does love never fails mean in 1 Corinthians 13:8?

Love is the very essence of God Himself (1 John 4:8) and is therefore as unending as God’s own nature. While spiritual gifts are temporary, love is permanent. This is why Paul concludes the chapter by saying, "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love"
